Build a Baby (A Billionaire Secret Baby Romance)` - Page 9

That is one of the most vivid fantasies I have ever had. I wish that I could make it come true.

I look at myself in the mirror. “Well, there's no denying the tension,” I mutter.

I sigh, then go over, and pick up my coffee. I take a sip and look over the blueprints once more. At least I got her out of my system for now. After a few more sips of coffee, I pick up my tools and get back to work. I need to make some progress on this house. My deadline to get out of here is moving up.

Chapter Six - Mia

I can't believe that just happened! I'm shocked at how abruptly Isaac dismissed me like that.

I stand there with my coffee in hand. My mouth hangs open as I watch him stomp out of the kitchen. This is a strange turn of events.

There is nothing left to say or do, so I grab my purse and walk out of the kitchen. I don't want to risk him seeing me confused or emotional. I hurry through the rest of the house, open the front door, and head outside.

Not even the beautiful weather is enough to dispel my confusion at his actions. I walk to my car, which is parked behind his in the driveway. I get in as quickly as I can and drive. I need to put as much distance as I can between us right now. Pulling over, I park once I'm a few streets away.

I don't know what happened? I thought we were having a great conversation. I liked hearing about his cabin and the things Isaac does in his free time. It all sounds so exciting and wonderful. So much better than my own life.

Could I have done something to offend him? I think back over the whole morning and analyze the entire conversation. Nope, everything seems perfectly normal.

Sighing, I lean my forehead against the steering wheel. What am I doing? I am getting too caught up with this older man. This is crazy.

I’m still in college, still a virgin. I shouldn't even be acting or worrying about stuff like this. The only way this would be happening would be if I had a crush on him. I sit up suddenly. Is that what's going on? I think back on all the time I spent with Isaac. The conversations, the laughing, and the smiling. The way I feel when I am around him. Oh my gosh, I do have a crush on him!

My feelings start to overwhelm me. I need help. I need to talk about this with someone. I reach into my purse and pull out my phone. I scroll through my contacts and push call.

“Hey, girl. I'm in town. Do you want to have lunch?” I ask into the phone.

“OMG, yes!! I'll meet you at Java’s,” my friend Kylie squeals over the phone.

Kylie and I met in high school. She’s always had a good head on her shoulders. She can set me straight.

“Okay, see you in a few,” I reply as we both hang up. I set the phone aside and start the car.

Maybe seeing Kylie is what I need right now. It would be nice to have some girl talk.

After driving into Manhattan, I park outside the restaurant. It's a nice day, so I wait outside and enjoy the sun. I'm a few minutes early anyway.

I think about Isaac again. He was so hot this morning with his shirt sleeves rolled up to show off his bulging biceps. Tight jeans, with a few rips, covered his long legs. His skin glowed with sweat, not too much, just enough, and he smelled so good. I just wanted to have his strong arms wrapped around me.

Okay, so I have a crush on him. That doesn't mean anything. Besides, he definitely does not feel the same way. He probably views me as some little kid that is hanging around bothering him. I groan at the thought.

I can't wait for Kylie to get here so we can talk. My phone beeps. It's a text from her. She’s down the street. I move away from the car and wait for her near Java’s front door.

A few minutes later, Kylie arrives. I give a little wave as she pulls into the parking space next to me. She turns off her engine and jumps out of the car. “Oh my gosh, Mia!” she says happily. “It’s been months! I didn’t realize we had spring break at the same time.”

I smile as we hug in greeting. “Let's go inside. We have so much to catch up on.”

We walk into the restaurant like two best friends as if time hasn’t passed at all. We settle into a booth in the back for more privacy.

“Two iced teas and two chicken salads,” Kylie tells the waitress, getting our usual. Once we are alone, she looks at me. “Tell me everything.” I shake my head and laugh a little. My friend blows a raspberry. “Come on. It's not often you come back here. When did you get back? Where are you staying? How come you aren't staying with me? I thought we were friends!” She pouts a little.
